The "Workshop on Nanoscale and Mesoscopics Systems" is a meeting to promote the information exchange, scientific discussions, and collaborations among scientists working on nanosctures or mesoscopics systems. Since it was first launched in January 1999, it has been held twice a year, each time inviting three or four experts in the field as lecturers. It is intended particularly for lectures rather than seminal talks as in usual conferences so that the partcipants can learn and discuss thoroughly the topics. The topics covered in previous workshops are available here or at the Homepage of the Quantum Transport and Superconductivity Lab. at Postech.
At the present workshop, we provide three lectures in the fields of quantum optics and atomic physics rather than in the more conventional condensed-matter mesoscopic physics. Ever since the birth of quantum mechanics, quantum optics has lead research frontiers seaking for the unique quantum nature of matter, in particular, the interplay between the coherence of the matter and the nonlocality of the quantum theory. With the recent developments of nanotechnology, researchers in mesoscopic physics have revealed fascinating coherence phenomena and nonlocal effects of electronic matters in solid-state systems. Quantum optics, atomic physics, and mesoscopic physics shares many common interests in their endeavor for the new fundamental physics and technological applications of quantum matters. We therefore believe that this workshop will give a good opportuity to enhance the mutual exchange of knowledges, research activities, and hopefully collaborations. For this workshop, three lectuerers, all well-known experts in quantum optics and/or atomic physics have kindly accepted our invitation. We thank them very much.
"나노-중시계연구모임"은 mesoscopic systems이나 nanostructure systems 분야의 연구에 종사하는 사람들이 모여서 자신들의 연구 정보를 교환하고, 각자의 연구결과를 서로에게 알림으로써, 국내의 이 분야 연구를 보다 활성화하고 상호간에 협동연구와 친교를 증진하는 것을 목적으로 1999년 1월에 결성되었습니다. 이 모임은 일년에 두 번, 하루 이틀 정도의 일정으로 특정한 주제에 대해 국내 (경우에 따라서는 해외) 전문가들에 의한 일련의 강의를 듣는 것으로 진행됩니다. 따라서 일반적인 학술발표회보다는 훨씬 심도 있는 내용의 전달과 토의가 가능한 것이 특징입니다. 이전의 나노-중시계연구모임 강의 주제는 포항공대 양자전도/초전도 연구실 홈페이지의 "conference and workshop" 항목 또는 여기에 요약되어 있습니다.
이번 제 13회 모임에서는, 보다 전통적인 중시계 물리 분야가 아닌, 양자광학 및 원자물리 분야에 세개의 강의를 준비하였습니다. 양자역학이 태동한 이래로 양자광학은 특히 물질의 결맞음과 양자물리 특유의 비극소성과 관련된 연구를 주도해 왔습니다. 최근 나노기술의 눈부신 발달로, 응질물질계의 전자의 결맞음과 비극소성에 관한 놀라운 현상들이 밝혀지게 되었습니다. 양자역학의 근본원리에 바탕을 둔 새로운 물리현상의 발견이나 새로운 기술의 개발을 지향한다는 점에서, 양자광학, 원자물리, 중시계 물리는 많은 공통점을 가지고 있습니다. 따라서, 이번 워크샵은 서로 독립적으로 발전해온 이러한 분야의 연구자들이 서로 모여 의견을 교환하고 나아가 공동연구를 할 수 있도록 하는 장이 될 것으로 기대합니다. 이번 워크샵을 위해서 세분의 저명한 양자광학/원자물리학자가 초청에 응해 주셨습니다. 깊이 감사드립니다.
