ESS AudioDrive® ES1879

ESS Technology, Inc.
Technical Brief
The audio driver for SoundBlaster sound cards in Linux 2.0.xx or later not only tries to detect an ESS chip, it tries to detect the type of ESS chip too. The correct detection of the chip doesn't always succeed however, so the default behaviour is 2.0 behaviour which means: only detect ES688 and ES1688. See Documentation/sound/ESS and Documentation/sound/ESS1868.

The BIOS Setup program has the following values:

Pheonix BIOS NoteBIOS 4.0 Setup / Advanced / Audio Features
Audio Base Address (maybe correspoding to snd_port): 0x220
Audio FM Base Address (snd_fm_port): 0x388
Audio IRQ Number (snd_irq): 5
Audio DMA1 Channel (snd_dma1): 1
Audio DMA2 Channel (snd_dma2): 5
Specified in the parentheses are the parameter names for ALSA sound module snd-card-18xx for ESS AudioDrive ES18xx cards.
