How to participate

Participation in the Asian Science Camp is through invitation only. Each interested student is required to submit an application to the local contact person/organization in his or her country/region, which will initiate a local selection process. A short list of potential participants including supervisors to accompany the selected students will be put forward to the ASC organizing committee. Approximately 250 applicants will receive an invitation to the ASC.

Qualifications

1. Be students from high schools (final year or twelfth grade) or colleges (first two years) with outstanding scientific talent in the fields of natural sciences.
2. Be proficient in oral and written English.
3. Have a genuine interest in science and research.
4. Be able to fully attend the ASC 2011.
5. Have the permission to fully attend the event from their schools/ universities.

Notes

There will be no registration fee and the committee will provide the participants’ living and local expenses associated with the Camp. Please note that the committee will not support the round trip flight tickets for the participants. However, there is a possibility of a limited numbers of scholarships that will cover airfare for the most promising students. The organizers will not be responsible for medical expenses incurred by the participants during the Science Camp. The organizers hence recommend each participant to purchase suitable travel and medical insurance before departure.

Air Travel Support

This Scholarship possibly can partially cover airfare(to/from Korea) for students in the Asian Science Camp 2011. It is offered to only a very small fraction of participating students. If you wish to apply for this scholarship, you may please consult your country’s /region’s contact person.

Applicant Requirements

Applicants should be students selected to represent their country/region for the Asian Science Camp 2011 to be held in Daejeon, Korea from August 7-13, 2011

Required documents

Please send the required documents via e-mail, attaching the documents in either PDF/MS Word/ Open office files to asc2011(a)krcf.re.kr. Please note that the document must be received by July 7, 2011 in Korean standard time. The total size of all attachments should not exceed 5 MB.

The following documents are required for applying for scholarship(English)

1. A scholarship application form
2. A current resume (no more than 2 pages)
3. An essay (approx. 500 words) on one of the following topics;
• ‘Why do I want to study science or what do I like about science’
• ‘What do I expect to gain from the ASC2011’
4. A letter of recommendation from your present school teacher or supervisor
5. A copy of your official transcript from current school or previous school

We will notify the result of the applicant to their contact persons around july 10, 2011.
